In recent years, the number of global problems that world endocrinologists are worried about has increased by one more. This is childhood obesity.
According to information published by UNICEF recently, for the first time in the world the number of overweight children exceeded the number of underweight boys and girls. Researchers associate this with the popularization of unhealthy diets, that is, the consumption of cheap and high-calorie products.
In particular, one out of every five children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 19 in the world, in other words, 391 million boys and girls are overweight. Some of them suffer from obesity.
The UNICEF report is based on the results of studies conducted in more than 190 countries. According to data, since 2000, the obesity rate among children belonging to the aforementioned age group has increased from 3 percent to 9.4 percent.
Therefore, experts conclude that an effective solution to the problem can be found by eating more natural products, fruits and vegetables instead of "fast food" saturated with trans fats, sweets, high-calorie foods, carbonated and colored drinks.
In addition, the growing number of boys and girls who spend their free time in front of the TV, computer or on various gadgets is another worrying factor of the problem.
